USDA has been collecting and disseminating food and nutrient intake data of the U.S. population to meet these needs since the 's. A long-term research plan has been developed within the Food Surveys Research Group that will enhance USDA's dietary intake methodology and result in a more efficient and cost-effective mode for data collection.
